Hello World,
This is the Official Blog of Famster.com. We are very thankful and happy about all of the praise and attention we have been receiving from the online community. Believe it or not, from time to time incorrect information gets disseminated on the Internet :-). Unfortunately this is one of those times. The post of information found on Alexa.com couldn't be farther from the truth. Famster.com nor any of its parent or subsidiary companies are affiliated with any adult websites. The information posted on Alexa.com is completely out of date. The domain name Famster.com was purchased in July 2005 from Safe Site Central, located at 2900 S Valley View #292, Las Vegas, NV 89102.
If you look carefully at the information posted at Alexa.com, the owner of Famster.com is listed as Registerfly.com, located at 623 Eagle Rock Ave, West Orange, NJ 07052. The URL, http://www.registerfly.com/ is a Web site hosting and domain registration company. All of the adult sites listed as being owned by Famster.com aren't even owned by Registerfly.com. Various owners all around the country and world own them. The only consistency we can tell from the information posted on Alexa is that all of the adult sites purchased their domains at Registerfly.com. They are also all hosted on various servers, not ours.
Anyone is welcome to check out the owner of any of the sites listed by doing what is called a "Whois" lookup at any domain registration Web site. Seek and you shall find that they are not owned, hosted by or affiliated with Famster in any way. We have contacted Alexa.com to have them update our profile to the most recent and correct information.
We hope you take the time to evaluate our product on its merits and not that of an erroneous, out-of-date post on Alexa.
Thank you,
Famster

Cool application. Would you mind commenting on the security issues in some of the digg posts.
Thx
There were two security issues mentioned in a comment on Digg.com. They were regarding navigating directly to a private component like the Family Tree or directly linking to a file in the file cabinet. Our CTO responded to the comment using screen name “bopfer” a few minutes later. Here is his response:
The Family Tree bug has been fixed. You can no longer view it unless you have the correct permissions.
The file download permissions actually work, it just wasn't returning a 404 if you didn't have permission. It was a blank page. It now returns a 404.
As you can see, one was a legitimate bug and was corrected within minutes. The other was that the wrong error was being reported back. This too was corrected within minutes of being reported.
We are very receptive and responsive to customer requests and comments. We even evaluated a users suggestion of expanding the File Cabinet space. We felt this request had merit and decided to oblige. The File Cabinet space was expanded from 50MB up to a whopping 1GB. That is just one example of how we communicate and innovate with our user base.
Keep the great ideas coming…we are listening!
Thanks for a fun site.. spent time today adding content, but now that I am ready to share it, I am not finding the instructions anywhere on how to invite folks. How do I assign members and give them passwords? Thanks
Great question!
We are working on a formal way to invite users to become members of your
Famster community. Until then the best way is to follow the instructions
below to set the "member" and "write" password and then email your
friends/family the password for "member" access or the password for
"Write" access.
Most components can be made public or private and can have a read/write
password assigned to it as well. Here is a brief description of how to do
this:
To set the "Member" password, go to the "Security Center" in the admin
tab. Then go to the "Website Properties" section. You can set the admin,
member and file cabinet upload passwords as well as change the family name.
As far as giving the member edit access, all you need to do is apply a
"Write" password to any component. To do this go to the "Security Center"
and click on the edit link next to the component you want to add the
"Write" password to. Add the "Write" password then send your visitors to
the component you want them to administer. If you set a write password
for most components an icon that says "Component edit" will appear at the
bottom of the canvas.
Click that and you will be taken to the login page. From the "Login Type"
drop down select "Component edit" option, enter password and click login.
You will automatically be taken back to the component you were in last and
you will now have edit rights for that component.
We hope this makes sense. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Famster
very cool application.
when translation en french, spanish ?
Thank you for your interest.
We are planning on making famster available in other languages. Unfortunately we have no timetable as of yet.
Thank you,
Famster
I see that there is no option to choose the family name, is it possible to Check for a avialable family name while buliding famster?
Right now the only way is to visit the URL you would like to use. If a Famster site loads, then the name you would like to use is not available. If nothing loads then it is available. You will want to use this URL http://www.famster.com/ANY_NAME
In the near future the build form will be redesigned with a way to check availability of the URL you want. Hope this helps.
Thank you,
Famster
